I had an otter cape for my shoulders, which I used until it wore out, but never again did I make a new one. Nor did I ever kill another cormorant for its beautiful feathers, though they have long, think necks and make ugly sounds when they talk to each other.
Nor did I kill seals for their sinews, using instead kelp to bind the things that needed it. Nor did I kill another wild dog, nor did I try to speak another sea elephant. Ulape would have laughed at me, and other would have laughed, too -- my father most of all. Yet this is the way I felt about the animals who had become my friends and those who were not, bu in time could be. If Ulape and my father had come back and laughed, and all the other had come back and laughed, still I would have felt the same way, for animals and birds are like people, too, though they do no talk the same or do the same things.
Something to read, somewhat interesting. A bit too farfetched. A wicked good read! With a group of six or more high school students who knew well the missing Jessie, twenty years later a skeleton is found on their private school grounds, buried at the foot of a Madonna statue. Is it Jessie? Some don't think so, they are certain Jessie ran away all those years ago, as it was something she did often.

The reader might wobble back and forth as to whether these are Jessies bones or not; but even worse is that there are so many in that high school group who could have killed her. This is set in a small town on the Oregon coast, and when the bones are found, the police detective who worked the case twenty years ago, is still on the force and is assigned this now cold case.
It brings the group back together - for interrogations, reluctant meetings between themselves, and much speculation. And then there is Becca, who suffers from 'visions'. We don't know whether this is a supernatural story or a skewed mental state on the part of some of the characters. This book kept me turning the page, had a great twisty plot with plenty of mystery and more murders. I love author Lisa Jackson and this is another one of her great series.
This is Book 1, which could be a standalone book doesn't leave you hanging although I'm interested in the entire series now. I recommend it. It's a paranormal thriller as well as a romance It's also a very long book and it was sometimes made even longer by the author In spite of that small flaw There were lots of twists and turns and lots and lots of red herrings to keep the reader in suspense.
Many times I I It's a paranormal thriller as well as a romance Many times I I thought I knew who did it, but I didn't actually figure that out until nearly the end. I always have felt that If a writer can keep the mystery going until the very end then they have done their best job. Any mystery and suspense or thriller fan will love this trilogy Great Who Done It When bones are found in an old garden maze at a closed up school, a group of friends start wondering if the bones belong to a student who disappeared years ago.
And then when these same friends start did dying off, questions about the girl who everyone thought she just ran away, may still be alive and taking revenge on her, so called friends. Wild ending will keep you wondering what will happen next? Jul 02, Patricia rated it it was amazing. Great to see 2 Sisters Righting a book together I have read many books by Lisa Jackson and didn't realize she had a sister.. Oct 16, Beth Lechman rated it really liked it.
Full of suspense that builds until the very last page. Sep 10, Bethann rated it liked it. Really killed most of the novel for me. Mar 03, Roxie Gallinger rated it really liked it. Reading thinking it would go one way, but it turned another way I wasn't expecting Reading thinking it would go one way, but it turned another way I wasn't expecting I read this book because this is a series I have been wanting to read for a long time.
I have all of the books, the newest Wicked Ways as an ARC from Netgalley, and it was time to get reading on these : The book was an interesting romantic suspense with danger and secrets mixed with some paranormal aspects like visions and psychic abilities.
It also has a police procedural feel because part of the book is told from the point of view of the investigating detective. I enjoyed reading this book because the atmosphere evoked the emotions it intended to bring out in the reader. I was supposed to be doing other things, but I sat at the kitchen table and read it the rest of the way through. On the other hand, this book had some problems. Some were minor, but others were bothersome. The first person accounts confused me, especially at the beginning.
A third minor problem showed up on page If it was intentional, I never understood the reasoning behind it. A fourth minor problem was that we never find out what Mitch knew about Jessie. It was implied that he knew something about her disappearance or something related to her in some other way, but it was never explained.
As for bigger problems, I have two I would like to mention. I kept expecting a twist that would resolve these incongruities, but a twist never came. I can overlook the minor things because they are kind of nit-picky, but the bigger problems definitely impact my rating of the book. However, I did think the authors excelled at keeping the story suspenseful, realistic, and fast-moving.
I will continue reading this series. Mar 09, Alasandra Alawine rated it it was amazing. Twenty years ago when Jessie vanished Detective Sam McNally "Mac" was the only one who believed foul play was involved in her disappearance.
Unfortunately he suspected one of the "boys" from her school whom he termed the Preppy Pricks of being involved and harassed them. Now a body has been found on the grounds of St Elizabeth's high school and everyone believes the remains to be Jessie's.

Technically this book achieved all I could want from a new book: a heroine I liked and saw emotional growth in, a hunky good guy for the hero, a storyline quite different than what I've read lately, more than one plot twist and chills and thrills galore.
Bush this book was written with her sister added a strong secondary character line with McNalley the detective and his iffy partner Gretchen. And finally, they left the door open for more of the same in future books.

I must also complement the authors on their ability to seamlessly combine their talents and words; there was not one paragraph that felt wrong due to their combined voice. That said, I didn't get invested in this book. I was able to put it down easily, even during the grande finale. I was chilled by the words but didn't feel scared.
I was always a bystander and not an active participant, something a really good story and a really good author can induce. I will continue to "read" Ms. Jackson's books, and hope to "fall in love" with one of them. That's what I read books for, after all. Dec 18, Dottie Aubel rated it really liked it. What a great thriller! Lisa Jackson and her sister, Nancy Bush teamed up to write a story with a killer that will give you chills.
Wicked Game revolves around Becca Sutcliff and a tight group of friends from St. Elizabeth High School. In , Jessie Brentwood, a member of that group of friends goes missing.
Everyone naturally assumes that she has run away, because that is what she has done many times before. Twenty years go by before a body is found on the campus of St Elizabeth's. A lot of que What a great thriller! A lot of questions arise as to the identification of the unearthed bones. Could the bones be Jessie's? If so, what happened?
The group of friends gather to discuss the possibilities and what it all means. As Becca and the other friends start seeking answers, someone is trying to stop them. I love good mysteries and thrillers and this one will not disappoint. Aug 17, Julie rated it liked it. This one started off very promising. It had the feel of a cold case mystery, a who done it and a little paranormal romance element as well.
But about half way through the plot drifted way off course. People cropped up that had nothing whatsoever to do with anything going on in the first half, and while a slight mystery was wrapped up involving the first half characters, the last half didn't satisfy.
We never got a clear picture of what was going on there and it seems like the authors got into a This one started off very promising. We never got a clear picture of what was going on there and it seems like the authors got into a hurry to wrap things up and left a lot of questions unanswered. There was closure for some people and the romance appeared to have a happy ending. It didn't stink but it wasn't the best romantic suspense I have ever read.
It kind of falls somewhere in the middle, I guess. Mar 31, Roxann rated it really liked it Shelves: mystery. I haven't read many of Lisa Jackson's books. I found this one at a consignment store and thought what the heck. This book starts with a 20 year old mystery--a teen had disappeared. Bones are found and slowly throughout the book others are killed. They are all related somehow to the missing girl from years ago. I just finished reading it and I really enjoyed it!
It was suspenseful and it kept me guessing until the end. My one criticism is at the end, I think the authors could have explained WHY everything happened. The book seemed to just end with questions left unanswered. All in all, a good book! Feb 12, Daelith rated it it was ok Shelves: read. A bit drawn out for my taste. Could have been shorter pages if we didn't have to keep rehashing the same issues over and over.
After I finished, I still felt like I was missing something. Get a FREE ebook by joining our mailing list today!
